Paris in the Middle Ages

In the 10th century, Paris was a provincial cathedral city of little political or economic significance, but under the kings of the Capetian dynasty who ruled France between 987 and 1328, it developed into an important commercial and religious center and the seat of the royal administration of the country.

Prehistory of Paris

Paris is at the crossroads of trade routes and rivers, in the heart of a rich agricultural region. In the XII century, Paris became one of the first centers in Europe in the field of education and art. Throughout its existence, Paris has always been at the center of events that marked the history of France.

Since the inauguration of its first line in 1900, Paris' Métro (subway) network has grown to become the city's most widely used local transport system; today it carries about 5.23 million passengers daily through 16 lines, 303 stations (385 stops) and 220 km of rails.
